But, first…

What is a Home Management Binder?

A Home Management Binder is simply a collection of helpful checklists, logs, lists, and trackers that allow you to manage all aspects of your household in an organized manner.

A home binder allows you, or anyone in the family, to find important information about your family nucleus and its day-to-day functions.

The key to a successful household binder is that it allows you to simplify your life by helping you stay organized and keep track of all things “home and family.” It also provided you with multiple priority categories making it a breeze to find what you need in seconds.

Here are some great real-life scenarios of a good Home Management Binder and the purpose:

  • What is for dinner tonight? –Weekly Meal Planner
  • How much money did I spend this month, and much did I earn? –Monthly Budget Tracker (Income & Expenses)
  • What should we instruct the babysitter before we head out? –Babysitter Info Sheet
  • Where do I keep track of the things I have to do daily? Weekly? –Daily and Weekly Planner
  • What home maintenance project should we be performing seasonally? –Home Maintenance Seasonal Checklist (Pre-filled)
  • How do I keep track of the kid’s school grades to stay on top of their progress? –Kid’s School Grades Tracker
  • What is my car’s VIN number? -Vehicle Service Log
  • What’s the account number for _____ if I need to contact the company? -Monthly Bill Tracker
  • What do I need to get if I want to organize a party? -Party Planning Checklist
  • You need to travel or be out of the house for a few days… -Home Management Binder
  • What do you need to clean each day without the hassle of stressing over it? -Daily and Weekly Cleaning Schedule

…. you get the idea!

The goal is to keep all of this vital information organized and easy to find so that you—or anyone in the family in the event you aren’t home—can find it.

The Ultimate Home Management Binder (Printable Bundle)

Keeping all of that in mind, I decided to create a Home Management Binder that will help us busy moms (or anyone) looking to get organized and prepared to tackle the daily life demands. Hassle-free.

I made it my mission to make this printable Home Management Binder the ultimate household binder. As you will soon see, it is a non-fluff, sanity-saving, 85+ pages of printable goodness.

Creating a Home Management Binder

Ok! Now that you know all of the goodies that you can have at your disposal by grabbing the Home Management Binder let’s talk about how you can put it together.

Honestly, there isn’t much at all that goes into creating your own home management binder. Once you have downlead your household binder printable, the rest comes down to preference.

Nevertheless, here are a few ideas for creating your ideal Home Management Bundle!

Printing your Printables

I created this Home Binder with many helpful printables and categories as I felt were the most useful. However, not all pages might apply to you, your family routine, or your circumstances.

If that is the case, you can select the pages you want to print and skip those you want to pass on. You can specify the pages to be printed and those to skip on your printer settings before printing.

Once all of the pages you wish to be part of your Binder are printed, then it is time to decide which pages you want more of.

For instance, at the beginning of every month, as I am getting ready to plan for the month ahead, I find it helpful to print out:

  • Weekly Planner x4
  • Weekly Meal Planner x4
  • Monthly Budget Tracker (Income and Expenses) x1

Weekly Meal Planner Printable

Of course, this all comes down to preference. So, if you rather do it all at once to last you an entire year, you can do that also.

Making your Binder

Once you have all of your printables printed, it is time to put them in your binder.

Home Management Binder, printable

You can choose whichever 3-ring binder you like and most of the other materials you probably have around your home. But here are some recommendations to make the best out of your binder:

  • 1-inch binder
  • 5 tab dividers
  • 3-hole puncher

Once you put your printables in your binder, pick the Binder Cover and Spine Insert of your choice included in this bundle.

Finally, you can use any of the 3-tab designs to better identify each category (also included in the bundle) or feel free to write your own.

Using your Binder and Printables

Once your Home Management Binder is ready, it is time to put it to good use.

Here are a few pointers you might find helpful when using your Home Management Binder:

  • Write down as much information as you can in your logs and trackers.
  • Let everyone know what the Binder is about and put it in a place where everyone can access it (unless you choose otherwise).
  • Keep copies of checklists and trackers that you often use in the binder pockets so that they are easily and readily accessible.

15 Best Non-Toxic Cribs and Mattresses (GREENGUARD Gold Certified)

Last Updated on December 22, 2020

Non-Toxic cribs and mattresses make for a safer and healthier environment in our babies nurseries.

With that said, finding reputable non-toxic crib and mattress brands could prove to be quite the task. After all, some companies claim their products are “natural” and “safe” when in fact the opposite could be true.

So, how can we make sure our baby’s cribs and mattresses are non-toxic and safe? Well,  that is exactly what we will be talking about today.

That way, you can feel confident knowing that what you are investing in is the very best and safest nursery products for your baby.

Why opt for Non-Toxic Cribs and Mattresses?

non toxic cribs, organic crib mattresses

A wide range of toxic chemicals could lurk in the air of our homes as a result of fumes emitted by VOCs.

These airborne chemicals are commonly referred to as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

While some of those chemicals at low levels might pose little to no risk to our health, others might have short, and long-term adverse health effects. In fact, studies have found that levels of several organics average 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outdoors.

VOC’s are widely used as ingredients in household products. Paints, varnishes, and wax all contain organic solvents. (Source) Sadly, baby cribs and mattresses are no exception.

That is why it is extremely important that we opt for non-toxic cribs and mattresses that are VOC-free!

But, how do we do that? How do we know that the crib and mattress we are choosing for out baby’s nursery are non-toxic and VOC-free?

What are GREENAGUARD Gold Certified Cribs?

When it comes to baby cribs and mattresses look for those that are GREENGUARD Gold Certified.

GREENGUARD Gold Certification is a voluntary third-party program that tests for over 10,000 chemicals and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

GREENGUARD Gold Certified Cribs and Mattresses

Products that have achieved GREENGUARD Certification are scientifically proven to meet some of the world’s most rigorous third-party chemical emissions standards, helping to reduce indoor air pollution and the risk of chemical exposure. (Source)

Baby furniture companies that are certified under this program bear the GREENGUARD Gold label. That ensures that their furniture has been independently tested and verified to meet rigorous standards for chemical emissions and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as formaldehyde or phthalates.

In turn, making baby cribs and mattresses that have been awarded this certification the safest in the market for you baby.

Solid Wood Construction

It is also important to take into consideration the material that our babies cribs are built from.

A healthier and safer option are cribs that are made of 100% real wood.

GOTS Certified Crib Mattress and Why does it Matter?

In addition to GREENGUARD Gold Certification other important certifications when it comes to non-toxic baby mattresses are Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard), and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

Unfortunately, conventional crib mattresses (as well as children and adult mattresses) emit large amounts of VOC’s, and contains polyurethane foam, PVC, phthalates, chemical fire retardants and numerous other chemicals that babies and children inhale.

Studies found that, “infants spend most of their time sleeping and are likely to be exposed to elevated concentrations of chemicals released from their crib mattresses…  The results suggest that crib mattresses are an important source of VOCs and infant exposure to VOCs are possibly elevated in their sleep microenvironments.” (source)

Certified GOTS Organic crib mattresses are the safest option as they are free of harmful chemicals and materials.

In essence, when choosing a crib mattress look for the following certifications…

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). GOTS is a textile production certification that limits the use of toxic bleaches, dyes and other chemical inputs during the production process of textiles. It is internationally recognized as the toughest organic textile standard because it goes far beyond verifying the organic farming process to include every step of manufacturing. In fact, finding a GOTS Certification Seal in a product, ensures a “safer” product than one with the USDA Organic Seal. That is because it doesn’t only ensure that the materials used are USDA Organic but also, that the entire harvesting, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading, and distributing process is chemical-free. Learn more…

GOTS Certified Crib Mattresses

GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard). Similarly, especially in the sleep products sector, GOLS is highly regarded certification. GOLS outlines requirements for latex products made from organic raw materials, as well as for material from non-organic origins. To achieve GOLS certification, a product must contain more than 95% of certified organic raw material. Learn more…

GOLS Certified Crib Mattresses

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Certification. This is another great certification to find in crib mattresses. If a textile article carries the STANDARD 100 label, you can be certain that every component of that article (for instance, every thread, button and other accessories) has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health. It even gives  you the ability to use a product’s unique ID on the label to trace the countries and production facilities in which the labelled article was produced. Learn more…

In summary, as per EWG (The Environmental Working Group), always try to look for the following certifications when looking for your baby’s mattress as a first option:

  • GREENGUARD Gold Certified
  • Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
  • Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS)
  • Oeko-Tex Certification

Now that we know what to look for in terms of non-toxic cribs and mattresses, let’s narrow them down so that you can pick the best option for your baby!

Something to consider is that most models conversion kits are sold separately.

The Ultimate Organic Baby Nursery List (Non-Toxic Baby Furniture)

Last Updated on December 23, 2020

Wondering how to create an organic baby nursery with non-toxic baby furniture and organic baby items you can feel good about? Then, no worries mama… today I will help you craft a beautiful organic baby nursery you and your baby will love and feel good about using.

But, first…

Why opt for an Organic Baby Nursery?

Organic Baby Nursery, Non-Toxic Baby Furniture

It is no secret that a wide range of products and items we interact with on a daily basis, mostly in our own homes, release airborne toxic chemicals into our environment. While some of these chemicals at low levels might pose little to no risk to our health, others might in fact have short, and long-term adverse health effects.

These airborne chemicals are commonly referred to as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

VOCs are widely used as ingredients in household products. Paints, varnishes, and wax all contain organic solvents. (Source)

Studies have found that levels of several organics average 2 to 5 times higher indoors than outdoors.

That is why it is extremely important that the nursery items we choose for our babies are VOC-free, and non-toxic altogether!

What to look for when creating an Organic Baby Nursery?

When creating and designing your baby’s nursery it is important to keep in mind the compositions of some of the baby nursery items—especially things such as cribs, baby mattresses, baby bedding, and nursery wall paint.

Here are some standards to look for when designing and creating your Organic Baby Nursery…

GREENGUARD Gold Certification (Furniture)

When it comes to baby furniture, look for nursery items that are GREENGUARD Gold Certified.

GREENGUARD Gold Certification is a voluntary third-party program that tests for over 10,000 chemicals and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

Baby furniture companies that are certified under this program bear the GREENGUARD Gold label. That ensures that their furniture has been independently tested and verified to meet rigorous standards for chemical emissions and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as formaldehyde or phthalates.

In turn, meeting the strictest standards for indoor air quality and product composition.

Low-VOC Furniture Paint (Furniture and Paint)

When we envision our baby’s nursery one of the first things we plan is the color palette. So we choose our beautiful cribs with the color of our choice…. but, forget to ensure the paint’s (or stain’s) color safety.

When creating your organic baby nursery, opt for baby furniture and items made with VOC-free, odorless, and non-toxic paint.

Real Wood Nursery Products (Furniture and Wood Toys)

Another thing to look out for when making your Organic Baby Nursery Items List is to look into the building materials and overall construction of the nursery furniture.

Ideally, you would opt for baby furniture that is made of 100% solid wood. Common wood types used to build baby furniture include maple, oak, cherry, ash, mahogany, and birch.

USDA Organic and GOTS Certification (Baby Mattresses Clothes, and Bedding)

Last, but not least, in helping us put together our Organic Baby Nursery is looking for the USDA Organic and GOTS Certified products. This will mainly apply to crib mattresses, baby clothing, crib bedding, and fabric toys.

USDA Organic. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Federal Trade Commission require that any article of clothing or fabric advertised as “organic” be made with fibers from USDA-certified organic crops, such as cotton or flax (used to make linen).

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). Even more rigorous than USDA, GOTS Certification is one to look for when purchasing nursery items like baby mattresses, clothing, bedding, and rugs. GOTS is a textile production certification that limits the use of toxic bleaches, dyes, and other chemical inputs during the production process of textiles. It is internationally recognized as the toughest organic textile standard because it goes far beyond verifying the organic farming process to include every step of manufacturing. In fact, finding a GOTS Certification Seal in a product ensures a “safer” product than one with the USDA Organic Seal alone.

GOTS Certified crib mattresses are the safest option as they are free of harmful chemicals and materials.

Furthermore, as per EWG (The Environmental Working Group), always try to look for the following certifications when looking for your baby’s mattress as a first option:

  • GREENGUARD Gold Certified
  • Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
  • Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS)

It’s a lot to take in, huh?

Trust me I know. As a mom and a nurse, I’ve done my fair share of research and trial and error over the years.

Not only can all this information be overwhelming and intimidating, but a bit scary at times. At least it was for me when I learned all about the potentially harmful chemicals in everyday products we considered “safe” around our children.

But, don’t you worry mama… Next, we will go section by section so that you can create an Organic Baby Nursery that is beautiful and safe for the baby and yourself.

Nursery rugs and playmats are other important elements when designing you organic baby nursery.

Aftercall, before you know it, your baby will be crawling, wiggling, and rolling their way around the nursery rug you selected for their nursery.

That is why it is important to ensure we opt for non-toxic rugs and playmats that are safe as much as they are useful.

The Lorena Canal Rugs are a great option for any nursery. Non-Toxic Nursery Paint

Last, but definitely not least in our Non-Toxic Nursery List, is Nursery Paint!

Household pain is most often one of the leading causes of poor air quality in homes. Most leading brands of paint in the market today can contain up tp 10,000 chemicals including toxins and carcinogens. These give way to harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds) to be released into the air and pollute the environment.

Safer paints for nurseries are those that are VOC-free. Here is a good read on eco-friendly paint and what to look for, but in essence, he are two great brands of non-toxic friendly paints for nurseries.

The Eco’s Lullaby Nursery Collection is a fantastic  and popular choice. This is a curated line of water-based, non-toxic paint designed specifically for nurseries, cribs and children’s play areas as it is a non-toxic, zero-VOC paint.

Another popular choice in the zero VOC department is AFM Safecoat Paint. Safecoat paints have almost no odor during application and are odor-free once cured. They contain no formaldehyde, ammonia, crystalline silica, or ethylene glycol.
